Coal for Christmas

We are still in shock that four coal projects were approved by the Albanese government just 6 days before Christmas – the worst Christmas present anyone could get!

And the semantics and misinformation was astounding. A couple of the quotes:

๐Ÿ˜Ÿ “In 2024, Labor hasn’t approved any new coal projects, they were just expansions of existing mines”

๐Ÿ˜Ÿ “We still need metallurgical coal through the transition to produce the steel for the renewable energy infrastructure and construction needs”

Tanya Plibersek’s social media post – sho is laughing about climate change?

Both statements are plain misleading and using disinformation to cover the poor decision making:

๐Ÿ˜Ÿ Labor has approved seven new coal projects this year. A NEW application for approval to mine in a NEW area is a NEW coal project.

๐Ÿ˜Ÿ The International Energy Agency has said, “No new coal mines or extensions of existing ones are needed as coal demand declines precipitously. Demand for coking coal falls at a slightly slower rate than for steam coal, but existing sources of production are sufficient to cover demand through to 2050”.

The reality is that the Albanese Government has approved 7 coal mines in just one year despite “taking climate change seriously” and pledging “no new exinctions of threatened species”.
