We have to stop opening up new coal and gas if we have any chance of slowing the extreme and more frequent weather events impacting on the environment and communities around the world.


The Queensland government issued an Environmental Authority without requiring a a thorough assessment of the environmental impacts across the three lease areas covered by the approval.

We took this one to court and had a win, but there is more to do still.

One of the recurring themes in environmental impact assessments for new and expanding coal mine proposals in Central Queensland, is that nearly all of them will significantly impact on koalas and greater gliders. 


Apparently, both the Queensland and Federal Government’s do a thorough assessment of coal and gas projects to make sure that they stack up on the basis of social, environmental and economic impacts and benefits.

But there are many loopholes in the legislation that need urgent fixing.
