No barrier on emissions means no Great Barrier Reef
At the Australian Meteorological and Oceanographic Society Summit, the Climate Change Authority Chair, Matt Kean warned that climate change is pushing the Reef to the brink. Without urgent emissions cuts, up to 99% of corals could be lost.
Government hypocrisy on climate action
In very disappointing news, the first coal mine has been approved by the Labor government, despite them being elected on the basis of their commitment to addressing climate change.
At the same time, the Environment Minister has rejected the reconsideration of the climate impacts of three of the Living Wonders fossil fuel projects.
Community celebrates the rejection of the Central Queensland Coal mine
The Central Queensland community came together to celebrate Environment Minister Tanya Plibersek decision to refuse the Clive Palmer-owned coal mine Central Queensland Coal proposal on the weekend.
The mine was proposed to be just 10km from the Great Barrier Reef World Heritage Area and was going to directly impact on critically important environmental resources.
