Climate Leaders and Climate Changers
When: Saturday 27 April 2 – 5pm
Where: Footlights Theatre and Restaurant, 123 Rockhampton Rd, Yeppoon

Join us to find out how we can all step up as climate leaders!
There are so many ways to make a difference for our environment and our future! This is your chance to hear from the some of the most outstanding climate leaders that are paving the way in addressing the most pressing environmental and social impacts that we are facing today.
A panel of inspirational climate leaders will tell their stories about their climate concerns and how they have used their specific interests and skills to make a real difference. These amazing people have all demonstrated great climate leadership in many different ways and will be there to inspire you to get involved in working towards a cooler and more stable environment!
Who are they? Our panel will be:
- Professor David Karoly (The Climate Council) with expertise in climate science and influencing government policy.
- Yolanda Waters (Divers for Climate Change) working to protect the Reef from the impacts of a warming environment.
- Ellen Roberts (Lock the Gate) helping landholders battle fuel projects that will impact on their land.
- Ed Hill (The Sunrise Project) using media to get the climate change message our to the community and politicians).
- Ben Pennings (Queensland Conservation Council) working on the brown side of company reputations and impacts for methane emissions.
- Imogen Lindenbery (Mackay Conservation Group) as an amazing advocate engaging community in the fight for meaningful climate action.
It is also your opportunity to see the Climate Changers documentary – a story that follows Australian scientist and conservationist, Tim Flannery, in his search for leadership on climate change.
Bookings are essential for this event as numbers are limited for seating and catering purposes.
Rise Up: 12 days of action for no more coal or gas
Move Beyond Coal are organisings action across Australia for communities to express their concerns about all the new coal and gas projects being approved contrary to emission reduction targets and keeping global warming to 1.5 degrees celcius – a target that is going to be hard to acheive.
This will be the chance for us to get invoved in the national 12 days of action being organised by Move Beyond Coal.
Details still to be finalised, but we are hoping to hold a multi-pupose event between 29 April and 10 May 2024. Multipurpose you ask? We are thinking a chance to:
- hold a general EnvA meeting so that members can see how easy and interesting being part of the EnvA management committee can be in the lead up to our AGM and a call for new commitee members,
- Get some great photos and media coverage of our CQ community calling for real climate action, and
- Sign on to petition or letter for our decisio-makers to let them know that we can’t keep deal with the rhetoric that we are transitioning to a clean energy future while coal and gas projects are not only being approved, but are being encouraged and subsidised.
More details coming soon!
