Six weeks into the new year and the Queensland government has already approved two new coal mines. Winchester South is a huge mine which will destroy threatened species habitat and will be a huge contributor to greenhouse gas emissions.

The Queensland Government has approved another coal mine – the first for the new year. It is considered ‘small’ in coal production terms, but is ‘huge’ in the area of threatened species habitat to be cleared.

Over 20 people gathered in Merv Anderson Park, Yeppoon, to demonstrate that communities everywhere want the Australian Government to deliver the climate leadership desperately needed to protect our lives, livelihoods and ecosystems. There was lots of fun and photos with Douglas the Dugong and Koko the Koala – just two of our local species…
